Effectiveness of a Telecoaching Training Program on Quality of Life and Physical Functions in Neurological Patients.

Abstract

Neurological diseases often result in both psychological and physiological decline, which can lead to a predominantly sedentary lifestyle. This decline, however, may be mitigated through structured physical activity. Thus, the aim of this study is to assess the impact of a telecoaching-based training protocol on the quality of life, muscle strength, functional mobility, body composition, and overall functional capacity of individuals affected by neurological disorders.

Participants will be recruited in collaboration with the Neurology Department of the "Policlinico" Hospital in Palermo. The intervention will consist of a structured exercise program, administered three times per week over a 9-month period, with evaluations conducted at quarterly intervals. Each session will include progressively aerobic training, resistance training, mobility, and balance exercises. The telecoaching program will utilize information and communication technologies, such as computers and mobile devices, to access and manage remote training.

It is hypothesized that the telecoaching intervention will result in statistically significant improvements in the targeted parameters without interfering with ongoing medical treatments. Additionally, a reduction in disease-related fatigue and therapy-associated fatigue is anticipated, potentially contributing to enhanced patient well-being and compliance.
