The Positive Behavioural Intervention and Support as a comprehensive program for promoting health & wellbeing in educational contexts
Abstract
This project aims to promote the Framework of Positive Behaviour Intervention and Support (PBIS) in educational and clinical contexts. PBIS is a multi-tiered framework that enables a holistic, preventative, and proactive approach to improve academic performance and classroom behaviour, help students manage emotions and make better decisions, encourage students to have positive attitudes about themselves and the people around them. It is hypothesized that students within PBIS-integrated environments will exhibit diminished undesirable conduct, amplify positive behaviours, and enhance emotional regulation when compared with schools not adopting PBIS. Concomitantly, the introduction of this educational approach is assumed to serve as a catalyst for fostering heightened compliance from both educators and families. More in depth, the aim of my PhD project is to explore the relationship between PBIS and Meta Emotive Intelligence to identify what is the role played by the individual differences in Meta-Emotional Intelligence (MEI) in learning PBIS rules. Besides, during the period of study will be developed new evidence-based tools to support educators in the implementation of PBIS.
