PhD project title and a short abstract

PhD project title:

Service Learning: Metacognitive Activities in Teacher Education

Abstract:

Integrating Service Learning (SL) activities into academic courses can provide a transformative experience for students, as well as an advantage for self-perception, social engagement and the achievement of learning objectives. An SL educational project requires the student to be in the field, in contact with real problems of the territory, offering their own resources.

The project intends to investigate the effectiveness of SL for improving the metacognition of teachers in training. Through the use of the Educational Design Research (EDR) methodology, the project aims to develop, implement and evaluate a training program that integrates SL into the teacher training program.

The project will be divided into five main phases:

Systematic Review of the Literature

Exploratory investigation of the perceptions, strategies and difficulties of future teachers

Development of the training program

Implementation of the project

Diffusion of the guidelines and research results.

The aim is to verify how SL activities develop crucial skills for teachers' professional practice, such as critical reflection, metacognitive awareness and self-regulation.

Integrating Service Learning (SL) activities into academic courses can offer a transformative experience for students, as well as a benefit for self-perception, social involvement and learning achievement. An educational SL project requires the student to be in the field, in contact with real problems in the local area, offering his or her own resources.
