PhD project title and a short abstract
"Educate about generativity today. Research and support paths for parenting with Philosophy for Children and Communities"
Within the horizon of the 20th century studies on generativity and starting from the educational emergences of our time that also signal to us a generative crisis, the research-intervention project presents the proposal of pathways to promote parenting education.
Parenting certainly represents a form of generativity, but this concept embraces an even broader meaning of responsible care for the new generations. It means going fare beyond the biological sense of generating; it represents the possibility of leaving a positive and meaningful “mark of self” to future generations.
Specifically, the following research and intervention project presents a proposal for educational support for parenting starting with generativity education. Parenting education is part of adult education interventions, but the idea of the project is to put them side by side with educational paths aimed at younger children as well. The idea is to planned to carry out the educational interventions in some schools in the Palermo’s area, but also within the Unipa Parent Service.
Therefore, the project has two objectives: on the one hand, the educational one, which will consist of working with parents and their children, activating with the former a process of critical reflection about the perception of their own parenting experience and the way of being parents and trying to lead them towards a responsible and aware parenting, also creating opportunities for exchange and comparison between parents and children. On the other hand, a research objective will be pursued that is linked to the methodology used: Philosophy for Children and Communities. In fact, it will be evaluated, with a pre-test and post-test, whether the method proposed in the training courses adequate to offer spaces and time to rethink their own perspectives of meaning, helping participants to activate critical thinking, to “free minds” from their preconceptions.
