Abstract

In Paolo Fabbri's library - located in Palermo's Palazzo Tarallo - semiotics books take up little space. They will be, roughly, a tenth part. The rest are linguistics and sociolinguistics, anthropology and folklore, especially twentieth-century philosophy, theory of science and history, sociology and mass media, theory and history of art, studies on the passions, war and strategy in general, literary and art criticism, antiquistics, history of religions, psychoanalysis. Why did Paolo Fabbri keep with him so few texts of that science of signification to which he devoted with conviction and obstinacy, perpetual transport and cyclical discomfort, his entire existence? The answers could be several.
