Abstract

Among the characters in Propertius’ poetry a remarkable place is given to Venus, Cupidus and the Cupids, thanks to the eminently erotic perspective of the contexts in which the main character is continuously tormented by these gods in the conflictual relationship with Cynthia. The analysis about whole Propertius’ anthology allows to identify the debts with Hellenistic poetry, which comprises the Palatin Anthology, Callimachus and the Bucolici minores, by pointing the innovative elements of the Latin elegiac poet out.
