The term "intersex" is considered an umbrella term used to describe a spectrum of sexual characteristics that do not fit within the typical binary notions of male and female bodies (Zucker, 2002). This condition is also referred to as Variation of Sex Characteristics (VSC), while in current medical protocols it is described as Disorders (or Differences) of Sexual Development (DSD). Recent literature has explored various forms of discrimination against the LGBT community, highlighting how even "microaggressions" can impact individuals' psychological well-being (Carone et al., 2022; 2023; Nadal et al., 2012; Vaccaro & Koob, 2018). This study analyzes a specific form of microaggression, hate speech, which involves the use of particular language aimed not only at offending the target individual but also inciting hatred — and potentially violent acts — towards both the individual and everyone who identifies with that particular group.
