Critical Border Studies Research School
Critical Border Studies Research School
The Critical Border Studies group – in collaboration with the Master degree in "Migrations, Rights, Integration" and the PhD in Human Rights of the University of Palermo, with Stockholm University – are excited to announce the second edition of its Research School. It will take place on May 27-31 in Petralia Sottana (Palermo), in the Madonie Mountains, at an Ex-Convent. International participants will be engaged in reflecting together on migration and borders thinking about them "from below". Four are the key-topics: 'border thinking and island methodology', 'border extraction', 'archipelagic thinking', and 'future imaginaries'. Consequently, with the themes addressed, Sicily was chosen as the ideal location for this edition because it emblematically represents the multiple dimensions of migration processes and border politics. Moreover, themes and activities have been prepared through a strong involvement of the local community of Petralia Sottana.
Each day includes a collective, horizontal, and democratic organization of both domestic activities and research activities. There will be no keynote speakers, but rather discussion groups and workshops animated by the guests themselves: young scholars, researchers, artists and activists from Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
The second edition of the Critical Border Studies Research School thus encourages new forms of critical thinking and different basis for a sense of community.
