The educational pathway of the Degree Course in Urban Design for the Transitional City envisages the performance of a compulsory curricular traineeship, referred to in the Study Plan as ‘Training and orientation traineeship’ with code 14184.
The curricular traineeship, which may be carried out from the first semester of the third year, entails the acquisition of 6 CFUs and has a minimum duration of 150 hours (25 hours/CFU, as established by the University of Palermo's ‘General Regulation for Training and Guidance Traineeships’).
Which organisations/companies have an agreement with Unipa for curricular traineeships?
The list of bodies/companies that have an active agreement with Unipa for the provision of curricular traineeships is available at the following link: https://www.unipa.it/servizi/utt/Accreditamento-Aziende/elenco-aziende/ and https://almalaurea.unipa.it/it/lau/lau_aziendeconvenzionate/
For national organisations/companies, SING students are advised to search by selecting:
‘Public administrations’ in the “company sector” section;
‘Curricular’ in the “Type of apprenticeships that can be activated” section.
The resulting list includes public bodies dealing with territory, cities, environment, cultural heritage, public goods, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic and environmental assessments, etc., for example:
‘Sicilian Region - Regional Department of the Environment’; ‘Regional Department of Sicilian Heritage and Identity’; ‘Department of Energy - Sicilian Region’; ‘Madonie Park Authority’; etc. There are also numerous Sicilian municipalities.
The same list (Public Administrations) also includes the University of Palermo's ‘Centre for Sustainability and Ecological Transition’, at which the ‘internal curricular traineeship’ can be carried out, although the availability of trainee places must be checked in advance by contacting the SING delegates for traineeship activities Prof. Grazia Napoli and Prof. Ferdinando Trapani (email: grazia.napoli@unipa.it; ferdinando.trapani@unipa.it)

The curricular internship can also be carried out at private institutions or firms, provided their professional or research profiles ensure that the intern acquires professional skills consistent with the educational objectives of the SING degree program. At the intern's suggestion, this consistency will be verified in advance by the SING degree program delegates for internship activities, Prof. Grazia Napoli and Prof. Ferdinando Trapani (email: grazia.napoli@unipa.it; ferdinando.trapani@unipa.it).
Are there funding opportunities for completing a curricular internship abroad?
Students have the opportunity to undertake a curricular internship abroad by participating in the calls for the “ERASMUS PLUS 2021-27 - SOON Student Mobility Consortium,” which provide grants to interns for their stay abroad.
https://www.arces.it/programmi-europei/
IMPORTANT: The minimum duration for a curricular internship abroad under these calls is 120 consecutive days (4 months).
You can view the latest active call (September 2023) at the following link:
https://www.arces.it/soon-mobility-consortium-progetto-2-2/
For example, through the “SOON 1 - Student Mobility Consortium” call, a curricular internship for the SING degree program was carried out in 2023 at the “Tesserae USR (Urban Social Research) - Colini Tripodi Gbr,” based in Berlin, Germany.
How to apply:
Students interested in a curricular internship abroad must register on the platform www.erasmusintern.org and access the “sign up” section, selecting the option “I’m looking for an internship.”
Students can then create their profile and search for the company/organization (including by country) that best aligns with their academic and professional career goals.
