Abstract
The article presents a review of anthropomorphic reliquaries made in Sicily between the second half of the 16th century and the end of the 17th century. These are works that interpret the peculiar purposes of Counter-Reformation art, strategically aimed at carrying out a new evangelization to dispel the problems that arose as a result of the Protestant Reformation. The contribution highlights the formal and decorative characteristics of the artifacts, often characterized by a strong realism, sometimes accentuated by the coloring of the faces, finished with hues simulating flesh tones.
