Abstract
The essay studies the iconography of two Sicilian saints, Santa Rosalia and San Nicasio, Jerusalem knight, in the paintings of the Calabrian painter Mattia Preti (1613-1699) between Naples and the island of Malta, tracing a historical picture made up of plague epidemics, religious feelings, devotion popular, pious clients, artistic innovations and intense cultural circulation.
