Research Area
Active Research fields
Fabrizio Pepe is a marine geologist with expertise in quantitative tectonic studies. Research areas: identification of active and seismogenic structures with geophysical methods; b) relationships between tectonics and volcanism; c) evolution of the Neapolitan Yellow Tuff caldera in the last 15,000 years; d) quantitative analysis of vertical movements in offshore areas through geomorphological indicators; Relations between eustatism, morphology, bottom currents and contourite deposits.
Research projects of the last 5 years
Earthquake Potential of Active Faults using offshore Geological and Morphological Indicators. Participants: Università di Palermo, Catania, Napoli, CNR Napoli, INGV Roma. Scientific responsible Prof. Fabrizio Pepe, Università degli Studi di Palermo
PO Italia-Malta 2007-2013- SIMIT Project, finanziato dalla UE (Leader Partner: Dipartimento di Protezione Civile Regione della Sicilia; Participants: Università of Malta, Università di Catania, Università di Palermo, Dipartimento di Protezione Civile di Malta);
PRIN 2010-11 “Active and recent geodynamics of Calabrian Arc and accretionary complex in the Ionian Sea”, Scientific responsible Prof. Carmelo Monaco, Università degli Studi di Catania.
Collaborations
F. Pepe collaborates with universities and institutions of Italian and foreign Research (Vrje Universiteit - TU Delft, The Netherlands - Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam), and with foreign companies (Geo Marine Survey System, Rotterdam) leader in the field of production systems very high resolution geophysical exploration in the marine environment.
Active research
Multi-tip sparker system for very high resolution seismic data acquisition. Commercial software (RadexPro) for mono- and multi-channel seismic data processing. GIS software for interpretation of geophysical data (GeoSuite Allworks). Workstation GIS for analyzing attitudes of capable or active faults.
Services delivered under the right of third parties
Geophysical investigations in order to: 1) reconstruct the stratigraphic and tectonic setting of area of interes for construction or infrastructures; 2) identification and characterization of marine sediments deposits for beach nourishment of beaches; 3) archaeological research.
