ING-IND/07 – Aerospace Propulsion
Description:
The Aerospace Propulsion group carries out its activities at the Engineering Department of the University of Palermo. The group promotes research and educational activities in the areas of subsonic and supersonic aircraft engines and in the area of space propulsion. In accordance with the ING-IND 07 declaration, the scientific contents cover the engineering and research on turbofan engines, turbofan with afterburner engines, ramjet engines and on solid propellant rocket motors and liquid propellant rocket engines. The research activities of the group concern the propulsive systems as a whole, the engines, the individual components of the engine, the engine control and diagnostic systems, the study and the development of scientific and technological innovations in the aerospace propulsion area.
The research areas currently active are the following:
- Engine condition monitoring and on board engine diagnostic systems.
- Combustion stability in solid propellant rocket motors.
- Innovative combustion control in solid propellant rocket motors.
- Controllable solid propellant rocket motors.
- Helicopter flight safety systems.
