The Libraries of the University of Palermo ensure the acquisition and organisation of documentary sources (books, journals and other materials, in various formats) supporting the research activities of the University community, providing a wide range of tools and catalogues for the widest possible access of all authorised users, both at the Libraries and, for digital collections, through remote access.

Furthermore, the Library Services:

• favours the full awareness of all researchers on the scientific communication system (promoting as much as possible open access to publications and to research data, and giving practical suggestions on how to avoid degenerative phenomena such as plagiarisms or predatory publishing);
• actively supports the process of self-archiving of scientific contributions of the authors in the Institutional Research Repository (the digital repository IRIS UniPa), for all the purposes identified in the University Regulations;
• collects information and provides advice to the authors on technical aspects related to the evaluation of research based on quantitative and qualitative bibliometrics.
