Preparation of greenhouse gas emissions inventory and estimation of the University's carbon footprint
The energy transition is crucial to achieving the goal of zero carbon emissions by 2050. Indeed, energy production and consumption are major contributors to climate change, contributing more than 70 percent of total CO2 emissions in Europe. The University of Palermo also aspires to achieve the CO2 emission reduction target of 55 percent by 2030 and 100 percent by 2050.
In accordance with the indications of the RUS and in particular the activities of the GdL Climate Change, the CSTE has promoted a research activity for the drafting of the inventory of greenhouse gas emissions of the University through the convening of discussion tables with the referents of different SDGs (e.g. 7, 12, 13,14) and with reference subjects internal to the University (Energy manager, Waste manager, Mobility manager).
The Viale delle Scienze campus was chosen as one of the locations on which to carry out experimentation and on which to evaluate prototypes with an average TRL, prior to the evolution and replication of outcomes at higher TRLs.
