Il complesso rupestre di Santa Maria della Grotta a Marsala nel contesto del Progetto Samothrace

Abstract

The preliminary results of the archaeological investigation conducted within the hypogea of the Santa Maria della Grotta rock complex in Marsala are presented here, as part of the Samothrace Project, a study aimed at reconstructing the stratigraphic sequence and defining the phases of occupation of the site. The results of the archaeometric investigations of the painted surfaces still visible inside the northern and southern rooms are also presented, focusing on the execution techniques and materials used, as well as the stratigraphy of the plaster layers and their state of conservation
