Abstract

The project involves the redevelopment of the Acropolis and its surrounding areas within the UNESCO Buffer Zone, following a path that stretches from the Ceramic District, through the Agora, and up to the Acropolis, in alignment with the direction of the Panathenaic processions as they traverse the urban sea. In specific locations, ephemeral visual machines will appear, framing the Acropolis as they approach it. On the northern slopes, the archaic temples are evoked by paths reactivated in the rock at various levels, leading to an elevator that uses the hollow shaft of an ancient well to reach the Acropolis, transitioning from darkness to light. Access to the plateau is made through the House of the Arrephoroi. Through an architectural promenade that winds through a system of garden carpets placed at different levels, observation points, and immersive experiences, one reaches the side of the Parthenon. From there, a new path leads back into the darkness and the chthonic realm, entering the Persian fill, and emerging into the light in the new construction sites of the Acropolis.
