Prof. R. Scaffaro graduated in Chemical Engineering at the University of Palermo summa cum laude in 1993. In 1998 he received a PhD in "Chemical Technologies and New Materials" by the same University.

Since 2000 he joined University of Palermo as an Assistant Professor of "Material Science and Technology" and in 2005 he advanced to Associate Professor in the same sector.

The research activity focus on the science and technology of polymeric materials with particular reference to the preparation and the characterization of polymer blends, composites, nanocomposites, reactive blending, compatibilization of polymer blends, recycling, degradation-stabilization, biodegradable polymers and, recently, nanotechnologies and biocompatible materials.

His teaching activity is on subject typical of the Material Science and Technology.

In 1993 he received an award from ENI for the research developed during the thesis.

In 2006 he spent one year at University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA, working in the Multifunctional Composites Laboratory with particular reference to nanotechnologies and multifunctional materials.

He is author of more than 90 among papers in international peer reviewed journals and book chapters and of more than 190 among conference presentations and invited seminars and lecture. He is the first author of two italian patents. He is also invited reviewer/referee for several international journal.

It was involved as principal investigator and participant in several research projects funded by national and international entities and regarding topics in the frame of science, engineering and technology of materials with particular reference to polymeric materials.
