Abstract
This essay explores the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, focusing on the Codex Callixtinus and its significance in guiding medieval pilgrims. The Codex, a composite manuscript dated between 1139 and 1173, comprises five books detailing the liturgical texts, miracles of Saint James, the transfer of his relics, the association with Charlemagne, and practical advice for pilgrims. The "Guide of the Pilgrim" specifically addresses the itineraries and challenges faced by pilgrims, marking important devotional and logistical stops along the route. The essay highlights the symbolic meanings attributed to the pilgrim's attire and the evolution of the pilgrimage infrastructure over time.
