ILARIA SABBATINI

Mète italiane del pellegrinaggio giudiziale

Abstract

This essay explores the judicial pilgrimage to Italian destinations, focusing on the memory of the Grand Council of Malines from October 2, 1592. It examines key pilgrimage sites such as the apostolic pilgrimage to the Basilicas of Saints Peter and Paul in Rome, the Marian shrine of Santa Maria Maggiore, the ancient site of public penance at Sant'Ambrogio in Milan, the symbolic "Jerusalem" of Santo Stefano in Bologna, and the devotional practices surrounding Nostra Signora di Napoli. The analysis highlights the interplay between local religious practices and broader Christian traditions, underlining the significance of these sites in the context of medieval and early modern piety.
