Abstract

A new species of Hypericum (Guttiferae) named H. scruglii, from Sardinia, is described and illustrated. It occurs in damp soil, near the spring or stream with fresh water, where it grows with numerous hygrophytes. This diploid species (2n = 16) belongs to the sect. Adenosepalum and is closely related to H. tomentosum, a species widespread in the W Mediterranean area. Its description is based on living material coming from locus classicus and cultivated plants.
