Abstract

The reform of the Stability and Growth Pact (SGP) became necessary as a result of the multiple enforcement difficulties the previous legislation had given rise to. this reform introduces “a change of pace” by providing new criteria for defining a public debt sustainability path tailored to the debt situation of each member state. The paper highlights lights and shadows of the new legislation.
