Abstract
The essay addresses the issue of proposed reforms to the Stability and Growth Pact (henceforth: SGP) within the framework of European economic governance from the angle of public debt sus-tainability, which has become a crucial constitutional principle in the discipline of public finance. The survey, after brief background on the principle of public debt sustainability in the Euro-national path, begins with the reasons behind the desire to make substantial changes to the SGP by high-lighting the major application dysfunctionalities that have occurred over the years and that today are also likely to be exacerbated in view of the changed economic and geopolitical post-pandemic scenarios.
