Abstract
Projects for Transformation. The second part of this study presents a selection of projects developed by the five research units for the analyzed case studies. Since the objectives of the transformation processes are at least partly clear from the very beginning of the analytical work, the orientation of the designs actually also determines the type of preliminary study which is conducted on the residential neighborhoods. By adopting different design methodologies and strategies, the projects explore several main topics, which can be summed up as: revision of the public spaces at the ground floor of the buildings; functional transformation and variation of quantities (number of inhabitants, number of residential units, density, etc.); enhancement of access and circulation systems within and around the buildings; typological transformation and upgrading of residential units; building retrofit to improve energy performance of the original structures.
