Abstract

Electric vehicles become increasingly prevalent in recent years speeding up the peak demand, grid overloading, the need for distribution system modifications, voltage fluctuations, and grid congestion. Efficient, innovative, and ecological charging methods are needed to address these issues. Smart charging systems with demand-side management methodologies present a promising chance to tackle these difficulties. This study presents a technique for enhancing the utilization of time- of-use electricity when charging electric vehicles, especially in integrating additional battery storage in smart charging systems. The goal is to reduce both charging costs and the strain on the power grid. An advanced charging system has been developed to charge electric vehicles, considering factors including time-of- use electricity prices, the state of charge of additional battery storage, and the electric vehicle. A detailed model has been developed with MATLAB/Simulink. The study's outcomes offer valuable insights into the advantages and viability of integrating additional battery storage into a smart charging infrastructure. Through the optimization of time-of-use electricity consumption for EV charging, owners can reduce their electricity costs while contributing to a more sustainable and resilient energy environment.
