Abstract
Article 57 of the Istanbul Convention requires the State Parties to guarantee the rights to legal assistance and to free legal aid ‘under the conditions provided by their internal law’. The paper aims to consider the significant role of legal assistance and legal aid in favour of victims, in criminal proceedings, especially in relation to violence against women (VAW) and domestic violence (DV) cases.
