La Trilogia del naufragio by Lina Prosa: Dramaturgy and Poetic of Inclusion

Abstract

Lina Prosa’s Trilogia del Naufragio (Shipwreck Trilogy) represents an interesting case study regarding the relationship between theatre and immigration. The recurring word in this Sicilian playwright’s text is "refugee". As a matter of fact, migrants are beyond doubt the protagonists of Prosa’s narrative. They bring to the stage their difficulties, fears and hopes. Obviously, we are faced with a narration which is at the same time dramaturgic-poetic and scenic. It cannot be considered an example of Social Theatre, since there is no direct experience involving migrants in the first person. However, what we are interested in understanding is how theatre, in its most traditional form, can still acquire a social and political value, thus playing a prosocial role.
