Abstract
This edited collection looks at how borders and media influence identity in its broadest possible meaning. The current global phenomenon of migration represents a continuous movement through the (post-)colonial past, and often represents a contemporary diaspora. With a specific focus on media and identity, this volume seeks to explore the phenomena of border-crossings, transnationalism and transculturalism concentrating on different historical periods and geographical areas. This volume stems from a fruitful cooperation among institutions and colleagues from the International Research Network MEMITÀ (Memory, Identity and Media Studies, http://memita.scienzeumanistiche.eu/) as well as scholars from other institutions. All the contributions aim to investigate social, political, and economic resistance, in which the formation of new identities through the borders are underlined.
