"Interazioni". Kamarina e il territorio rurale ragusano

Abstract

The Council of Europe Framework Convention on the Value of Cultural Heritage for Society (Faro 2005) intro-duces and renews the concept of cultural heritage, consolidates its relationship with the inhabitants. The following reflection comes from an ongoing project at the PhD “Architecture, Arts and Planning” of the Uni-versity of Palermo. Specifically, we intend to explore the relationship between architecture, archaeology and nature in the archaeological site of Kamarina. The goal is to achieve an active interaction between a protected area and the territory of which it belongs by questioning those unresolved margins between contiguous parts. The architectural design, in its experimental form, is one of the tools capable of understanding and mediating the criticalities of a place. We are gradually focusing on how an unprecedented interaction between archaeology, rural landscape, the coast and unskilled sections of cities (the greenhouse countryside, Scoglitti, Passo Marinaro, Randello, Punta Braccetto) can also redeem these last areas.
