EGIDIA OCCHIPINTI

Elleniche di Ossirinco

Abstract

The book is a new critical edition of three papyrus groups, the Cairo Papyrus, the Florence Papyrus, and the London Papyrus, dating from the late 1st century to the late 2nd century AD. These texts cover narrative portions of Greek history from the last phases of the Peloponnesian War to the Asiatic campaign of king Agesilaus of Sparta. The study offers new textual supplements; each papyrus text is followed by translation and commentary. The anonymous author appears working in continuity with the previous historiographical tradition, represented by Herodotus and Thucydides, but, at the same time, he is innovative, embracing the new interests in constitutionalism and federalism which are typical of the age in which he is supposed to live (4th century BC; s. Aristotle and Xenophon).
