L’attualità di Luigi Vanvitelli tra progetto urbano e paesaggio

Abstract

The essay explores the potential relevance of Luigi Vanvitelli in the field of urban and landscape architectural design. The reinterpretation through a critical lens of some of his most significant works provides an overview of the different kinds of intervention that the Maestro proposed at different scales: from the building scale, to the urban scale, up to the territorial scale. The first case studies investigate the value of the architectural artefact understood as landscape infrastructure; the last ones analyse the theme of the relationship between the buildings and the urban space. This paper aims to interpret Luigi Vanvitelli’s work as still capable of offering possible design responses to today’s cities and their transformations.
