Centri storici e Smart Town: i centri minori come laboratori di nuova residenzialità sostenibile

Abstract

Many towns in Sicily are experiencing a marginal condition. Brand-new opportunities, such as ICT (Information and Communication Technology) consent to formulate an utopia, which is able to reduce physical, economic and cultural distances, by discovering new borders of virtual accessibility. Due to an accomplished regeneration, which should be focused on new technological means and cutting edge methods, smaller towns might offer a people-oriented livableness, trusting in a less exclusion and marginality. Sediment persistency, relations between different scale and qualitative considerations could confer a new desirability profile, in a wide ranging “smart” vision, transposed from other contests. A brief work, which involves a multidisciplinary team work has already started. Considering the dialectic link between Conservation and Development, the main aim of the research is to try to explore ways which lead to the development without giving up Conservation. Through an admittedly oriented reading from technological angles, the themes are: Sustainable Mobility, Urban Safety and Design for All, Typological regeneration, Cultural heritage, Water cycle, Material cycle and RSU management, Renewable power, Architectural heritage and performance retrofit, ICT and virtual infrastructures.
