Abstract

This contribution examines the concrete unfolding of the system of cooperation that we find affirmed in various legal systems of Latin American States, where there is a not always homogeneous treatment of the different religious cults, precisely because their juridical condition is increasingly left to specific agreements and “convenios de colaboración” stipulated with the civil authorities, even within the framework of a general and common law. In addition, the tendency in some of these legal systems to promote forms of “widespread” bilaterality, allowing confessional representations to participate in the definition of public governance in the field of religious freedom, outside the traditional channels of negotiation, is highlighted.
