MARCO DI DONATO

Continuità e discontinuità dell'islamismo libanese di fronte all'egemonia confessionale

Abstract

The demonstrations and revolts that have spread throughout the Arab world since 2010 have suddenly enlivened the political situation of an area that had long appeared to be under the heel of enduring dictatorships. It may be too soon to draw any conclusions about the so-called "Arab Spring", but one may attempt to grasp the potential that recent events may hold for the future. This is the goal of this book, in which renowned Italian and Arab scholars and experts in Muslim politics and history analyse the most interesting cases (Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Jordan, Tunisia, Lebanon), describe the variety of (democratic and not) outcomes, and emphasize the role of religion and religious parties. In my article, I do propose an analysis of the Lebanese case by focusing my attention on the concept of confessionalism.
