Dr. Di Matteo earned his M.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Palermo (Italy), and completed his Ph.D. at the same institution, with joint supervision from Rice University (USA). In 2016, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Innsbruck (Austria) and has held several visiting research positions at leading universities in both the USA and Europe. Since 2024, he has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering at the University of Palermo.

Dr. Di Matteo develops primarily analytic, numerical and experimental methodologies for the response analysis of systems exhibiting nonlinear behavior and/or exposed to random loads and in the presence of uncertainties. The dynamics and vibrations of complex structural and mechanical systems, their modelling and stochastic response analysis, receive particular attention. His research interests include signal processing algorithms for structural identification and health monitoring methodologies, as well as theoretical and applied mechanics of modern materials and structures. Dr. Di Matteo’s work has diverse applications in civil and mechanical engineering, comprising innovative vibration control and energy harvesting strategies.

Dr. Di Matteo is recepient of the 2018 GADEeS Award for the best PhD Thesis on the topics of Dynamics and Stability, granted by the Group of Dynamics and Stability (GADeS) of the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (AIMETA). In 2020 he has was selected as Early Career Editorial Board (ECEB) Member for the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Part B: Mechanical Engineering, and in 2022 he received a Fulbright Research Scholarship, founded by the U.S.-Italy Fulbright Commission. Dr. Di Matteo has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal papers. He is an Associate Editor and/or an Editorial Board Member of the following journals: Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems Part A and B, Science Progress, Discover Mechanical Engineering, and Earthquake Engineering in Frontiers in Built Environment journal. Prof. Di Matteo is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), of the ASCE Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI), the European Mechanics Society (EUROMECH), and the Italian Association of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (AIMETA).
