Abstract
The Clean Vehicle Directive imposes the adoption of clean and energy-efficient vehicles in road transport. In this paper, the replacement of the transport system based on internal combustion engine (ICE) technology with an electric equivalent serving the University campus of Palermo is provided as a practical case study. The objective of the work is the reduction of long-term costs for the management and service, together with the reduction of CO2 and particulate emissions associated with the entire transport system operating on the campus. For the realization of an efficient system, the vehicle on-board storage system, a PV plant with static storage system for energy generation and charging system are sized. The feasibility of the whole system is studied through the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and the evaluation of several environmental factors.
