Il paesaggio come patrimonio: sostenibilità, educazione e cogestione nei Geoparchi Globali UNESCO

Abstract

This article examines the landscape as heritage by exploring key theoretical conceptualizations and highlighting the complexity and critical nodes involved in the recognition and value attribution process carried out by UNESCO. The objective is to empirically assess how policies for the protection of heritage landscapes territorialize procedures, principles, and globally significant visions. In particular, this article delves into the case of UNESCO Global Geoparks that promote an integrated model for the conservation and enhancement of the landscape, emphasizing the crucial role of local communities in the sustainable management of geoheritage. The analysis identifies three keywords for Geoparks: sustainability, education, and co-management, and explores their connections in reference to the landscape recognized as the Global Geopark Rocca di Cerere. In conclusion, this article demonstrates the importance of effectively implementing an integrated, participatory, and sustainable approach that takes into account the specific facets of the landscape and actively involves all stakeholders in the production of a dynamic sense of belonging.
