The Language of Sports Medicine

Abstract

The relationship between medicine and sport has very ancient roots. Studies in specialized discourse have investigated several domains including medicine and sport, but little research has been carried out so far on the language that results from the combination of these two fields of knowledge. In this respect, the interaction between sports and medicine has created a new language, both in content and forms, with its own vocabulary and classification systems. By offering an overview of its terminology, this book intends to highlight the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary nature of the language of sports medicine and the uniqueness of this field within the medical sciences.
