Abstract

The paper deals with the presence of Cato the Censor in the Latin rhetorical tradition, focusing on the apparently ambivalent evidence in the Institutio oratoria. It then identifies in a Quintilian’s passage in Book 12 a probable reference to the Censor, inspired by Cicero's Cato maior.
