Abstract

The political commitment of Nilde Iotti, president of the Chamber of Deputies for three legislatures, provides an opportunity to compare the political ideas of Catholics and Communists during the Resistance and in the first decades of the Italian Republic. This comparison highlights that freedom and work are the fundamental elements of Italian democracy in the second half of the twentieth century.
