Abstract
«In Architettura. Il giornale della progettazione» was founded by Pasquale Culotta in Cefalù in 1979, together with a group of young architects. For several years the magazine has been a valuable tool for debate on the profession and teaching of architecture. With this publication, a sort of special issue, we intend to pay homage to Culotta. Retracing some of the most important stages of his activity, from the project for the new headquarters of the Faculty of Architecture in Palermo to the competition for the church of San Carlo Borromeo in Rome, through the memory and contribution of those who had the opportunity to work and study with him , the portrait of a professional is drawn, who has seen in the constant research and in the ethical responsibility of doing, the meaning of being an architect. It is possible to constrain the panorama of this paper along five guidelines in this regard: of the creative process, which interprets the materials; of the scientific process, which organizes the method; of the democratic process, which manages expressions; of the maieutic process, which starting from the method allows the manifestation of the individual; of the compositional process, which organizes everything into forms, even the structures of didactic and personal relationships.
