Abstract

In the great multi-voiced conversation on architecture, Culotta asks himself: «What is the city? - and he continues - The city is the place of representation of the social form» of the community. The text is a profound reflection on the social role of the architect, on his public responsibility, torn between the awareness of the need for the standard as a "reference material" in the technical space of production and the cultivation of the intimate part of the designer where creation takes place , as an artistic discipline, and where uncomfortable truths also emerge, such as the recognition of a real ability to intervene, understood as sensitivity to the complexity of the architectural question, only for a small percentage of the designers qualified in the trade. It is for this reason that the recognition of the role of the School, of the need for quality training, as the only possible response to raise the selection processes and therefore the threshold of responsibility becomes fundamental.
