Abstract

The paper presents the ongoing action-research work on the sculptural complex of Fiumara d'Arte in Sicily, established over the chronological period of forty years by Antonio Presti. The park is listed among the Contemporary art and architecture venues by the Ministry of Culture. We present the teaching experience conducted within the Monument Restoration Laboratory (DARCH-Unipa) specifically aimed at the conservation of the "Artist's Rooms" in the "Museo Albergo Atelier on the sea". In the past, the lack of a collective 'recognition of value' combined with the lack of an overall vision and the conduct of interventions carried out regularly but without control risk distorting the work and compromising both its material and its aesthetic values. The action research work consisted of a protocol of analysis and interventions until reaching the definition of the operational tools necessary for drawing up a planned conservation sheet, defining the operations to be carried out on the artists' rooms. Based on an anamnesis conducted in the traditional way, survey/understanding of the materials/identification of degradation, a meticulous cataloging of 10 artist's rooms was developed, in order to draw up a Planned Conservation Plan, which ensures their maintenance over time and contrasts the risk of eventual dismantling. For this reason, precise collateral strategies of sharing with the community and the creation of new forms of management are necessary.
