«È stimata la migliore della Provinzia»: la chiesa del collegio gesuitico della Valletta e le sue vicende costruttive nella prima metà del Seicento

Abstract

The construction events of the Church of the Circumcision of Jesus, attached to the Jesuit College of Valletta, have never been the subject of focused study, although there is no lack of archival sources and points of interest. Through the acquisition of new documentats, an attempt will be made to shed light on a phase of the building site, between the 1620s and 1660s, and the caesura represented by the explosion of a powder magazine in 1634. The role of Francesco Buonamici da Lucca will also be clarified, in relation to those of other architects, sculptors, and stonemasons of different origins, against the background of a context, the Maltese one, distinctly cosmopolitan.
