The wired connectivity service provides university facilities with the basic telematic infrastructure for connection to the University network and the Internet through the GARR consortium. This infrastructure consists of a MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) that encompasses the university sites in the territory of Palermo and a series of WAN (Wide Area Network) connections to remote locations in Agrigento, Caltanissetta and Trapani. During 2010, thanks to the project Wifi4unipa, the ridges that connect the SIA (University Information System) with the Rector, the complex of Via Archirafi, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Law were connected to 10 Gbps; the remaining ridges, in 95% of cases, operate at 1 Gbps. Internet connection is made through GARR pole, hosted in the premises of the SIA. 

ACTIVITIES

• Monitoring management and implementation of wired network infrastructure and ensures connectivity to the GARR network and the ridges of the University (MAN)
• Management from the point of view of internetworking, On-Premise and On-Cloud virtualization services
• Tunneling Management vs Remote University Locations (WAN)
• Testing of new ICT technologies
• Management of access logs, coherently with what is indicated by Legislative Decree 196/2003 and s.m.i.
• Management of EDC networking
• Management of Unipa/GARR internetworking equipment
• Plays the role of APM GARR
• Management of backup and restore procedures for virtualized servers and network equipment
• Support to Ads
• Coordination of its informatic activities in line with the CAD (Digital Administration Code) D. Lgs. 82/2005 and s.m.i. (D.Lgs 179/2016), with the D.Lgs 196/2003 and s.m.i., with the Agid (Agency for Digital Italy) and with the ministerial and European directives.

The service is intended for Teaching Staff and TAB Staff.
