E’ terminato da pochi giorni il viaggio in Thailandia dei prof. Stefano De Cantis e Enzo Scannella, rispettivamente delegato del Rettore a supporto della internazionalizzazione e Coordinatore dei Corsi di studi in Economia e amministrazione aziendale (L-18) e Scienze Economico-Aziendali (LM-77), entrambi del Dipartimento di Scienze Economiche, Aziendali e Statistiche (SEAS).

Con il supporto del dott. Roberto Freddolini, dottorando presso la Universidad Católica de Murcia (UCAM), che sta trascorrendo un periodo di visiting presso la Rangsit University (RSU, https://www2.rsu.ac.th/home) hanno incontrato i rappresentanti della RSU e, specificatamente, il prof. Noppadol Dharawanij, Director of Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hospitality Management ed il prof. Jirapat Lekhakula, Director of Tourism, Hospitality and Sports International Program. Hanno presentato l’offerta formativa dei corsi internazionali dell’Università di Palermo, l’offerta formativa del Dipartimento SEAS ed, in particolare, il Corso di Lurea Magistrale in Tourism Systems and Hospitality Management (LM-49) e quella in Business Economic Sciences (LM-77). Hanno inoltre discusso con i rappresentanti della Rangsit University la possibilità di siglare un accordo generale tra le due università (Memorandum of Undestanding) e l’opportunità di iniziare delle collaborazioni sul piano della didattica e della ricerca e, più specificatamente, di organizzare una serie di scambi di docenti e studenti. I due docenti di Unipa sono poi stati invitati a visitare il College of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, assistendo ad alcune attività didattiche, e a visitare le diverse strutture dedicate alla formazione degli studenti: la RSU Chef School, il RSU Reservation and Ticketing Center, la RSU Beverage School e il centro di formazione dedicato alla crocieristica. Infine, il prof. De Cantis ha presentato i primi risultati del progetto europeo i-TAG (International Tourism Analytics Group, https://itag-project.eu/) dedicato alla diffusione della cultura statistica nell’ambito del turismo e dell’ospitalità.

Inoltre, i prof. De Cantis e Scannella hanno incontrato alcuni rappresentanti della Prince of Songla University (PSU, https://www.psu.ac.th/en/) ed in particolare il prof. Pornpisamu Promsivallop, Dean della Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism e il prof. Krittabhas Khwamyuen, Deputy Dean for Academic and International Affairs con i quali sono già in atto dei progetti di collaborazione (in particolare un Erasmus+ Capacity Building finanziato con fondi europei: INNO4Tourism, https://inno4tourism.eu/).

“Sono stati una serie davvero interessanti di incontri, in cui sono emersi da un lato il desiderio e la grande disponibilità a incrementare la quantità e la qualità della collaborazione tra le università thailandesi e UNIPA, dall’altro le diversità dei sistemi formativi universitari in cui quello italiano è certamente rivolto agli aspetti teorici e scientifici mentre quello thailandese è maggiormente rivolto agli aspetti professionalizzanti e al mercato del lavoro. Tuttavia, proprio questa diversità può essere il punto di incontro e di interesse per lo scambio di pratiche e di esperienze sul piano della didattica e della ricerca” ha commentato il prof. De Cantis sintetizzando l’esperienza maturata.

“Nel confronto con le autorità universitarie thailandesi, abbiamo notato un’ampia apertura verso le università italiane, un grande interesse per le opportunità di internazionalizzazione ed una vasta disponibilità ad accogliere future collaborazioni e occasioni di scambio. Entrambe le università si sono dimostrate fortemente interessate ad accogliere studenti e docenti di UNIPA, per attività di tirocinio e di ricerca” ha affermato il prof. Scannella, a conclusione della visita.

A few days ago, Professors Stefano De Cantis and Enzo Scannella completed their trip to Thailand. De Cantis, the Rector’s Delegate for Internationalization, and Scannella, Coordinator of the Degree Programs in Economics and Business Administration (L-18) and Business Economic Sciences (LM-77), both belong to the Department of Economics, Business, and Statistics (SEAS) at the University of Palermo.

During their visit, with the support of dr. Roberto Freddolini, PhD student at the Universidad Católica de Murcia and visiting student at Rangsit University (RSU, https://www2.rsu.ac.th/home), they met with representatives from RSU, including Professor Noppadol Dharawanij, Director of the Bachelor of Arts Program in Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Professor Jirapat Lekhakula, Director of the Tourism, Hospitality, and Sports International Program. They presented the international academic offerings of the University of Palermo, the SEAS Department, and, more specifically, the Master’s programs in Tourism Systems and Hospitality Management (LM-49) and Business Economic Sciences (LM-77). Discussions with RSU representatives focused on the possibility of signing a general agreement (Memorandum of Understanding) between the two universities and exploring opportunities for collaboration in teaching and research. Particular emphasis was placed on organizing faculty and student exchanges.

The UNIPA professors were also invited to visit the College of Tourism and Hospitality Industry at RSU, where they observed various educational activities and explored the facilities dedicated to student training. These included the RSU Chef School, the RSU Reservation and Ticketing Center, the RSU Beverage School, and the training center specializing in the cruise industry.

Additionally, Professor De Cantis presented preliminary results from the European i-TAG project (International Tourism Analytics Group, https://itag-project.eu/), which aims to promote statistical literacy in tourism and hospitality.

The two professors also met with representatives from Prince of Songkla University (PSU, https://www.psu.ac.th/en/), specifically Professor Pornpisamu Promsivallop, Dean of the Faculty of Hospitality and Tourism, and Professor Krittabhas Khwamyuen, Deputy Dean for Academic and International Affairs. Ongoing collaborative projects between UNIPA and PSU, including the EU-funded Erasmus+ Capacity Building project INNO4Tourism (https://inno4tourism.eu/), were a key focus of their discussions.

“These meetings have been truly enriching,” remarked Professor De Cantis. “On one hand, they revealed a strong willingness and commitment to enhancing the quantity and quality of collaborations between Thai universities and UNIPA. On the other hand, they highlighted the differences in university education systems: the Italian approach emphasizes theoretical and scientific aspects, while the Thai model is more geared toward professional skills and market needs. However, it is precisely these differences that can serve as a meeting point for exchanging practices and experiences in teaching and research.”

Professor Scannella echoed this sentiment, stating, “In our discussions with Thai university authorities, we observed a great openness toward Italian universities, keen interest in internationalization opportunities, and strong enthusiasm for future collaborations and exchanges. Both universities expressed a significant interest in hosting UNIPA students and faculty for internships and research activities.”
