Email configuration
We inform you that, in order to improve the effectiveness of the fight against spam, starting from 14 April 2009 users who use for e-mail programs such as Eudora, Outlook etc.will have to change some settings in the configuration of such programs.
What changes?
The policies of use of the smtp mail server of the University of Palermo.

To combat the phenomenon of spam.
Who does it change for?
For all users of the unipa.it domain that manage their email via programs such as Eudora, Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Mail etc.. The change also concerns users who connect to the Internet via ADSL and who until now have to use the server of their provider to send e-mail.
When does it change?
The new settings can be used immediately.
They will become mandatory from Tuesday, April 14, 2009. In the morning of that day there may be some disruption.
How does it change?
Below you will find the information you need to configure your e-mail program.
Please note that some programs require only part of the information reported
For those who use POP3:
- incoming mail server: mail.unipa.it
- port used: 995
- connection type: encrypted via SSL
- outgoing mail server: smtp-out.unipa.it
- port used: 465
- connection type: encrypted via SSL
- the server requires authentication
For those who use IMAP:
- incoming mail server: mail.unipa.it
- port used: 993
- connection type: encrypted via SSL
- outgoing mail server: smtp-out.unipa.it
- port used: 465
- connection type: encrypted via SSL
- the server requires authentication
Who uses exclusively the web mail service, what must change?
No change is required if you use the web mail service.
