Educational objectives and professional opportunities for graduates
The 2nd cycle degree course in “Musicology” provides students with advanced historical and theoretical knowledge of music and its diffusion as well as thorough competences in literary, artistic, philosophical, linguistic, historic and scientific (psycho-sociological and mathematical) subjects, with respect to their relations with music and with the production of sound. The course also provides a thorough grounding in using computer tools for the notation, publishing, classification of musical assets and for the bibliographic research in the musicological and ethno-musicological fields. Graduates of this course will be able to perform original research in the field of musicology and ethno-musicology in a completely independent way.
The coursework is structured to achieve the assurance of learning goals in a wide range of specialist musicological subjects, such as Musical philology, Philosophy of music, History and Analysis, and objectives of advanced knowledge of ethno-musicology, linguistics, philology and literature from antiquity to the present day. The course includes also performing arts classes.
Graduates of this course may carry out the following professional activities:
- teaching of musical subjects;
- research in the musicological and ethno-musicological field;
They can fill responsibility positions within:
- specialised publishing industry;
- opera houses;
- public and private companies in the field of conservation and restoration of musical assets, and of cultural divulgation and communication.
