LM 69 – AGRICOLTURA BIOLOGICA

 

Educational objectives – professional opportunities for graduates

 

Graduates of this course will:

 - Know the necessary research methods and be able to take part in research and experimentation regarding the issues related to organic productions;

 - Possess knowledge and competences in the organic management of agro-ecosystems and in the restoration of local cultural traditions;

 - Be able to carry out technical assistance and certification activities in the field of organic productions, also within national and international agencies;

 - Possess good problem solving skills as to complex environmental issues and the management of organic agro-eco-systems.

 

The course is divided into:

 - Specific class activities which aim to equip students with an understanding and competences related to organic farming of fresh and transformed foodstuff, deriving from horticulture and breeding. Students will also acquire the basic knowledge of ecosystem management. Particular attention is paid to aspects related to chemical and biological fertility of soils, to its preservation and to the management of spontaneous flora. Class activities provide a thorough grounding in issues related to agro-environmental policy, laws, certification, marketing and economic aspects of organic products.

 - Elective activities, which are structured to enrich the systemic and integrated vision of the agricultural organic farming sector.

 - Practice activities, carried out within companies or institutions, will train students to get professional qualification in the field of biologic production and certification. To gain easier access to the job market, students might also attend specific Audit courses aiming to qualify them as professionals in the certification of biological processes and products. This courses will be implemented in partnership with accredited certification bodies.

 

Graduates will carry out their professional activity in the field of organic productions, elaborating and certifying projects for the transformation from traditional to organic farming and management of agro-ecosystems. They will contribute to the definition of strategies of administrations, institutions and companies regarding the recuperation and upgrading of cultivation practices respectful of natural resources, according to law provisions.

Career opportunities might be found in the professional practice as well as in institutions, public and private agencies in this sector.
