Mauro Lo Brutto is Associate Professor in Geomatics at Department of Engineering of University of Palermo.

He holds an MSc. degree in Geological Sciences from the University of Palermo. He has attended an advanced postgraduate course in “G.I.S. (Geographical Information Systems) and Remote Sensing” from Formez in Naples (Italy) and won a fellowship at the University of Palermo to carry out research on “Use of satellite and photogrammetric images for erosion monitoring”.

He has a PhD in “Geodetic and Topographic Sciences” from the University of Naples Parthenope (Italy).

His main areas of expertise include photogrammetry, laser scanning, GNSS, topography, and cartography. More specifically, his research focuses on photogrammetric data acquisition and processing for Cultural Heritage documentation and monitoring, on the use of UAS (Unmanned Aircraft Systems) for geomatics applications, on terrestrial laser scanning surveys for Cultural Heritage and archaeological 3D modelling and documentation, on the implementation of innovative approaches for Scan-to-BIM process, on studying the applications of geospatial positioning by Permanent GNSS Network.

He is the author of several scientific papers published in national and international scientific journals and on the proceedings of national and international congresses. He has taken part in many national and international research projects.

He serves as Section Board Member of Applied Sciences (MDPI) for the “Earth Sciences and Geography” section and he is Guest Editor for some special issues in the European Journal of Remote Sensing (Taylor & Francis), Applied Sciences (MDPI), Remote Sensing (MDPI), Heritage (MDPI).
